| Membership of the Swindon Education Trust (SET) April
2008-March 2009 Reciprocal arrangements with other GP
Education Trusts within Avon, Gloucester and Wiltshire (AGW) for paying SET
members means that members now have access to an extremely wide range of
educational events throughout the region free of charge, or in some cases for
more expensive courses, a small admin fee. It has therefore been agreed that
meetings in other parts of Wessex and outside of Wessex will no longer be
reimbursed up to £150 in any one year from Swindon GP Education Trust funds. Members may attend, free of charge, events organised by SET and all other GP Education Trusts within AGW. Some events may require a refundable cheque deposit or, for more expensive courses, such as GP Refresher Week, a reasonable admin fee will be charged. Other educational events this will cover will be Study Days/Half Days, evening and lunchtime lectures, Practice-based education and Individual/Portfolio based learning. There is no limit to the number of educational events you can attend. Having our own local education trust allows increased funding to come to the Office of General Practice, the Academy, The Great Western Hospital and allows development of education both in terms of quality and quantity. It gives us the flexibility to bring in new and exciting speakers and courses. The Trust also supports General Practice Research, Personal Development Plans, Learning Needs Assessment, the training and development of practice non-clinical staff and practice nurses, along with other issues relevant to General Practice. Trust members can, at annual or extraordinary general meetings propose the use of resources in other ways. If within the terms of the trust, these proposals can be put to a membership vote.
www.sgpe.org : See the new Swindon GP Education Office website for all CPD events. Practice Nurses and Practice Managers will be invited, along with GPs, to attend appropriate events that provide opportunities for multi disciplinary education and will be charged a reasonable fee to do so. In some instances this fee may be paid by the Swindon PCT and therefore be free for Swindon practice nurses.
