The PracticeThe Merchiston practice was established 150 years ago and until 1992 was based in a converted private house. We now practice from an award-winning modern surgery and are fortunate to have space to accommodate almost all of our primary health care team. We look after most of the residents of Stratton, as well as some of the neighbouring areas on the east side of Swindon, including several of the villages. We think we're a friendly and democratic practice - we all enjoy the stimulus that a new registrar brings to the team. We have lunch together every day and our registrars seem to find this a good opportunity to discuss problems informally. The Team
The TrainingFormal tutorials (2 separate hours each week) are usually with one of the trainers, but all the partners are involved in training. The registrar has their own room, with a permanently installed video camera. Training is learner-centred, with a flexible educational programme to suit the individual registrar, negotiated during the induction period, and reviewed regularly during training. We hope it's also fun! Day release (all day Wednesday) is on the Swindon/Bath scheme and there is a half day off each week. Swindon has an excellent Co-op to cover on-call commitments from 10 o'clock at night and 12 noon on Saturday. We are well aware of the requirements of summative assessment, having now been through the process with two registrars. Contact detailsSimon or Steve at: |
